Jongyoon Baik is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science and also holds an M.S. degree in Statistics at the University of Chicago.
She studies politics under authoritarianism with special interests in state-society relations, media control, grassroots movements, and nominally democratic institutions. Jongyoon is also interested in advancing research methodologies that overcome the reliability problem of data compiled from authoritarian regimes. Her regional focus is on the People's Republic of China.
With the support from APSA (NSF) DDRIG, she has been creating the Administrative Lawsuits Dataset for her dissertation, Politics of the Administrative Litigation System in China. Her fieldwork has been supported by UChicago Center for East Asian Studies and UChicago Center in Beijing. She is also a recipient of the Overseas Ph.D. Scholarship from the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies.
