Cathy Cohen’s important and landmark essay “Punks, Bulldaggers and Welfare Queens: The Radical Potential of Queer Politics” published 20 years ago, helped to shape the field of queer studies and gender and women studies. There was an all-day symposium, celebrating her scholarship at the University of Maryland in April, a half-day event at the University of Michigan in September, a panel at American Studies Association last week, and there will be a panel at the National Women’s Studies Association this week in Baltimore.
