Description

The Department of History at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in the history of the United States during the long nineteenth century to start on or after July 1, 2026.  We welcome applications from candidates who either are ABD or hold a recent PhD and particularly encourage applications from scholars whose work explores transnational perspectives on these histories. 

Qualifications

Candidates must have earned the PhD degree in a relevant field prior to the start of the appointment.

Part-Time Lecturer, Department of History

Description

The University of Chicago, Division of the Social Sciences seeks a part time lecturer in the Department of History for a one-year, non-renewable term beginning on or after September 20, 2025.  Responsibilities include serving as a preceptor for the BA thesis seminar sequence (three courses across our three-quarter academic year). This position will be part of the SEIU bargaining unit. 

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD in History, or in a closely related field. Prior teaching and advising experience is required, with previous experience supporting independent student research preferred.
