Noah Schouela is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the University of Chicago specializing in comparative politics and quantitative methods. His research focuses on the drivers of representation, inequality, and redistribution in large cities. He uses fine-grained spatial data and methods to unpack the geographic dimensions of democracy and development in urban settings, particularly those characterized by complex governance institutions. His dissertation explores how class-based representation in major Latin American cities is influenced by broader partisan affiliations and local political considerations in decentralized metropolitan areas, as well as the consequences of these political attachments for urban governance. Prior to starting his PhD, Noah received an MA in the Committee on International Relations at the University of Chicago, where he held a fellowship in his second year, and a BA in Economics and Peace, Conflict, and Justice Studies from the University of Toronto.
