Harper-Schmidt Fellow

Julia is a Harper-Schmidt Fellow in the Society of Fellows and Collegiate Assistant Professor in the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Northwestern University, Evanston. Before joining the Society of Fellows, Julia taught in Stanford University's first-year Civic, Liberal, and Global Education program. At the University of Chicago, Julia primarily teaches in the Classics of Social and Political Thought Core sequence. Her research focuses on John Locke’s theological and tolerationist writings, and her work on Locke’s scriptural hermeneutics has been published in the journal Political Theology. Julia’s book project examines the idea of sincerity in Locke’s writings on Christianity and religious toleration.
