Ryan is a formal theorist and comparativist who began his PhD at UChicago in 2024. His work primarily involves applications of formal theory towards climate politics, populism, state accountability, and crisis responses (and prevention). He is particularly interested in exploring how we can construct effective and resilient institutions to deliver positive policy outcomes as the geopolitical landscape changes. Beyond formal theory, he works with mixed-method approaches to evaluate such institutions and stake normative claims about crisis and climate politics.
