Postdoctoral Scholar in American Politics

 

Location: The University of Chicago’s campus in Chicago, IL, USA

Department: Department of Political Science, University of Chicago

Employment type: Postdoctoral, full-time (40 hours/week)

Duration: This position is planned to be 12 months, from August 1, 2025 through July 31, 2026, though we have some flexibility on the timing. Please indicate your availability in your cover letter. Reappointment is possible dependent on satisfactory performance, the availability of funding, and the candidate’s continuing eligibility for postdoctoral training. The total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral experience may not exceed seven years, including postdoctoral work at other institutions.

Responsibilities and expected outputs:

  • The Postdoctoral Researcher will collaborate with Professor Jon Rogowski on research related to American political institutions.
  • You will have time to carry out your own research projects.
  • You will be encouraged to participate in the intellectual life of the Department of Political Science, and the University of Chicago more broadly, by attending the weekly American politics workshops, hosting public conversations, etc.
  • The Postdoctoral Researcher must be based at the University of Chicago’s main campus in Chicago, IL.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in political science (preferred), economics, or adjacent disciplines
  • Strong skills in quantitative methods, data analysis, project management, and written communication
