Donald Grasse studies political violence and state development, with a focus on resource conflicts, legacies of armed conflict, and human rights. His research on the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia and the Taliban in Afghanistan documents how insurgent groups develop institutional rules which impact civilians in conflict, with potentially long-term consequences, while his research on transitional justice in Argentina illustrates how governments attempt to reconcile legacies of violence. Donald’s work has been published in the American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics, International Organization, and elsewhere. He joined the University of Chicago from Cornell University, where he was a Visiting Assistant Professor, and received his PhD in Political Science from Emory University in 2022. As an instructor, he focuses on teaching courses on Methodology and controversial debates in the field of security studies.
