Careers

Political Science trains students to creatively assemble evidence to construct and critically analyze arguments about the political world. The procedural and substantiative knowledge gained from political science coursework prepares students for a variety of diverse and in-demand career paths.

For the Class of 2025, 74% are employed and 26% are pursuing further education.

Among employed students, there are a wide variety of career paths, include nonprofits, nongovernmental organizations, government, think thanks, consulting, and investment firms.

Of the 40 unique employers of the class of 2025:

• 25% represented nonprofits (including nongovernmental organizations, think tanks, and community-centered organizations).
• 20% were in Government or Law (working for Legislators, the Executive Branch, and for State's Attorneys).
• 20% in financial services (hedge funds, wealth management, and financial planning).
• 12.5% at consulting firms (including management and legal consulting).
• Remaining sectors included small business start-ups and technology firms.

Students have pursued both graduate education and law school post-graduation, including at Stanford University, Northwestern University, and University of California, San Diego.
